Fluconazole 150 mg
Fluconazole is a broad spectrum antifungal drug, which is used to treat fungal infections.
Fluconazole is a member of a new class of triazole antifungal agents which inhibits Cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes resulting in blocked ergosterole synthesis.
- Mucosal candidiasis: These include oropharyngeal, esophageal, non-invasive Broncho-pulmonary infections, candiduria, mucocutaneous & chronic oral atrophic candidiasis (denture sore mouth). Normal hosts & patients with compromised immune function may be treated.
- Systemic candidiasis: Include candidemia, disseminated candidiasis & other form of invasive candidial infections.
- Genital candidiasis: Vaginal candidiasis, acute or recurrent, candidal balanitis.

Prevention of fungal infections: Prevention of fungal infections in patients with malignancy who are predisposed to such infections as a result of cytotoxic chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Cryptococcosis:
Including cyptococcal meningitis & infections of other sites (e.g. pulmonary, cutaneous). Normal hosts and patients with AIDS, Organ transplants or other causes of Immunosuppression may be treated. Fluconazole can be used as maintenance therapy to prevent relapse of cryptococcal disease in patient with AIDS.
Funzil Capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or to related azole compounds & in advanced liver disease.
Cautions should be exercised in renal impairment, pregnancy, breast feeding & in raised liver enzymes. The use of Funzil in nursing mothers is not recommended. The use of Funzil in children below 1 year is also not recommended.
Funzil is generally well tolerated. The commonest side effects associated with Funzil are nausea, headache, skin rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence & elevated liver function values.
In Adults:
- Oropharyngeal Candidiasis: 50-100 mg once daily for 7-14 days.
- Oesophageal Candidiasis: 50-100 mg once daily for 14-30 days.
- Vaginal Candidiasis: 150 mg by month as a single oral dose.
- Systemic Candidiasis: 400 mg as initial dose followed by 200 mg daily for 28 days or longer based on clinical response.
- Acute cryptococcal meningitis & other cryptococcal infections: 400 mg as initial dose followed by 200 to 400 mg daily, duration of treatment depending on clinical & mycological response.
- Funzil may also be used in daily doses of 100-200 mg to prevent relapse following a primary course of antifungal treatment for acute cryptococcal meningitis.
- In immunocompromised patients at risk of fungal infections Funzil may be given prophylactically in a dose of 50-100 mg daily.
- For dermal infections including tinea pedis, corporis, cruris and candida infections, the recommended dosage is 150 mg once weekly or 50mg once daily. Duration of treatment is 2-4 weeks, but tinea pedis may require treatment up to 6 weeks.
- In Tinea Versicolor, the recommended dose is 300 mg once weekly for 2-3weeks.
- For deep endemic mycosis, doses of 200-400mg daily for up to 2 years may be required. The duration therapy should be individualized but range from 11-24 months with Coccidiomycosis, 2-17 months with Paracoccidioidomycosis. 1-16 months with Sporotrichosis and 3-17 months for Histoplasmosis.

Who should not take Funzil?
